“To avoid causing embarrassment to others we ask that our customers are appropriately dressed when visiting our store (footwear must be worn at all times and no nightwear is permitted.)”

Now don’t get me wrong, I love to wear my pyjamas in the house, they are just so comfortable and I can sit cosily in the house with a warm drink nearby, watching a film or reading a book. I must admit I can wear them all day especially when I know that I won’t be leaving the house all day!
So reading the recent story about Tesco’s banning shoppers wearing Pijamas to the store, really made me laugh. What a hilarious or shocking sight for the remaining shoppers and staff.
I wonder why some people think it’s appropriate to leave the house wearing their bedtime gear? I understand they are very comfortable, and yes of course I want to feel comfortable when I do my local shop at Tesco’s Express, but never ever would I consider wearing my night clothes. Bedtime gear is strictly for the house, for myself and my boyfriend to see and no one else! It only takes a few minutes to undress and grab a pair of jeans or even a comfortable pair of tracksuit bottoms which are just as comfy as PJ’s.
Only yesterday I felt quite embarrassed opening the front door wearing my Pj’s to deliveryman who came to drop of a fence at 12 noon. God knows what he thought of me, but I quickly ran upstairs and slipped on my jeans to let him in the back garden. May I also add that I was working from home and to all those others who work from home, I bet you sit by your lap tops wearing your Pj’s too!
I found it even funnier that the Tesco’s ad of Martin Clunes in 2007 dressed in his pyjamas shopping in the store made one mum ask;
“Why is it ok for post Mr Martin Clunes, but not for normal people like us?”
And in response to this;
“We do appreciate the irony, but another ad shows a shopper getting picked up in a hot air balloon – and we do not provide parking facilities for balloons.”

I wonder if the pyjama frenzy will take off and we will be going to work wearing our pyjamas. What a sight that would be. At least we can save some money and not buy clothes anymore because pyjamas are the new thing!
