How Real is The Recovery?

This is not a rhetorical question, nor a political one. The question, how real is the recovery, is serious and needs serious consideration not just from the policymakers, who are only too aware of the situation, but also from the media and the general public at large. We have long lived with this motto of ‘perception is reality’ and the current recession has indeed established the primacy of psychological factors in our economic world, but when we have started seeing the green shoots of recovery everywhere, it is better to set perception aside for a moment and get real.

Facing the New Year Part 2

We’re now approaching March 2010 and all those New Year’s resolutions should be starting to pay off. I’m modestly pleased so far with my progress- my consumption of scotch eggs has plummeted considerably ( I momentarily fell off the scotch egg wagon in late January), my crisp habit is under control and I have switched to lower fat alternatives such as savoury crisp breads and I have been nowhere near Ikea. However, there was an incident in Homebase, but I’d prefer not to speak of it.

The Art of Romance…..

We’re fast approaching the time of year that most men dread. February 14th, Valentines Day. The one day a year where you can show that special somebody in your life how much they mean to you.

I remember the thrill of sending anonymous Valentines cards to girls in my class when I was at school, which looking back now seems a bit of an odd tradition. Even if the girl in question did mutually return my admiration, how would she know who it was from and why would she want to risk of looking foolish and guessing incorrectly? This system seems more than just a little bit flawed to me!

NSPCA

When my friend and I heard that the NSPCA were doing free micro-chipping for pets, we made sure we were there on the day armed with our cats. I had my Bobbi and my friend had her two kittens, Tig-Tig and Midnight (all three are siblings and are six months old.) There were a few hackles raised and hisses exchanged between my baby and her babies during the car journey but it was nothing compared to what lay in front of us.

Pyjama Palaver

“To avoid causing embarrassment to others we ask that our customers are appropriately dressed when visiting our store (footwear must be worn at all times and no nightwear is permitted.)”

Tescos Stores

Now don’t get me wrong, I love to wear my pyjamas in the house, they are just so comfortable and I can sit cosily in the house with a warm drink nearby, watching a film or reading a book. I must admit I can wear them all day especially when I know that I won’t be leaving the house all day!

Toddlers Part 2

Your child has reached their first birthday and is walking and has some speech. If not, keep an eye on this and try to promote walking and talking. Your child can now reach table tops and low shelves and will become interested in turning switches on and off. (Please secure any and all gang/plug sockets long before this point.)
